This is one of the longest and most spectacular treks in Ladakh. Beginning in the west at Lamayuru and ending in the east at Darcha on the Leh-Manali road the trail crosses the Zanskar mountains and ends in the main Himalayan Range.
There are ten passes to cross and the trek takes in much of the magnificent Zanskar Valley including several villages. The trail also passes through remote areas with little human habitation but abundant wildlife including blue sheep, kiang, marmots and birds.
From Lamayuru the trek follows the same route as the trek from Lamayuru to Padum. From Padum the trail follows the east branch of the upper Zanskar river to the settlement of Purni then takes the southeast branch of the river to its headwaters and crosses the Shinkul La (5080 m) before descending to finish at Darcha.
